1. Wear Protection. Be it sunscreen, condoms, bug spray...whatever. Always make sure you have with you.
2. Enjoy the raw power and beauty of your youth. Although you probably won’t enjoy it until it’s faded. But trust me, you will look back at the amount of energy you had 20 years ago and think “Damn!”
3. You are not as fat as you think you are.
4. Don’t worry about the future. Or worry in general for that matter. Worrying is about as effective as trying to prove the theory of relativity by picking your nose. Sure you might come up with the answer but it will out of pure luck. The real troubles in your life are the things that never crossed your mind, the kind that blindside you at 4:30 pm on a Friday, before a long weekend and now you end up working late.
5. Do one thing everyday that scares you. A little adrenaline a day helps keep the boredom away.
6. Boys – All females do not want to sleep with you.
Girls – All males are not trying to sleep with you.
7. Sing. Loudly.
8. Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts. Don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours.
9. Floss
10. Don’t waste your time with jealousy. It's a useless emotion. Trust me. I know.
11. The race is long and in the end it’s only with yourself.
12. Remember the compliments, forget the insults. And when you know how to do this let me know.
13. Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
14. Stretch and.....don't forget to breathe. Unless you are under water. Then don't breathe.
15. Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life. Some of the most happy and interesting people I know, didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives...Some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t.
16. Get plenty of calcium
17. Take care of your knees. You are going to need them.
18. Maybe you’ll marry and have kids, maybe you won’t. Maybe you’ll divorce at 40 and maybe you will be dancing the Macarena at your 75th wedding anniversary.
19. Don’t congratulate or berate yourself too much. The outcomes of your choices are partially up to chance like everybody else’s.
20. Enjoy your body. Use it every way you can. Don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it. It’s the greatest instrument you’ll every own.
21. Dance – Even if you have nowhere to do it except in your living room
22. Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.
23. Do NOT read beauty magazines, they’ll only make you feel ugly.
24. Get to know your parents – one day they will be gone for good.
25. Be nice to your siblings or your cousins – They are your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
26. Some friends come and go like waves in the ocean. But the true ones stick like an octopus on your face.
27. Visit NYC but leave before it makes you hard. Visit Northern California but leave before it makes you soft.
28. Travel the road less taken.
29. Respect your elders.
30. Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you will have a trust fund or a wealthy spouse but you never know when either one might run out.
31. The fact that there's a highway to hell and only a stairway to heaven says a lot about anticipated traffic.
32. The police never think it's as funny as you do.
33. People can be assholes. Just make sure you are not the toilet paper.
34. Follow your heart. But take your brain with you.
35. Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
36. Learn the difference between your and you're. Their, there and they're. Two, to and too. PLEASE!
37. Buy what you need. Save what you can. Give what is right. Enjoy what is left.
